Review of the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. Sentimental comic strip about the power of empathy.

A picture with Tom Holland in the title role release.  And it is three times better than any previous film about Spider-Man.

Peter Parker ( Tom Holland ) is in big trouble. At the final of the previous film, Mysterio ( Jake Gyllenhaal ) told everyone who was hiding under the guise of Spider-Man.  And in addition, made Parker a villain. Now Peter is famous, the gloomy Jay Jonah Jameson ( J.K.Simmons ) calls out to hate Spider-Man from every iron.  And the house of Aunt May ( Marisa Tomei ) is besieged by haters. Poor Parker can’t even walk calmly down the street with his girlfriend ( Zendaya Coleman).

Moreover, due to her connection with Spider-Man, she is an accomplice of a crime under investigation. And if Peter is ready to put up with the fact that his own life has gone downhill.  Then he will not allow him to ruin the fate of his friends. Spider-Man turns to Doctor Strange ( Benedict Cumberbatch ) for help to somehow remedy the situation. After the Infinity Stones were destroyed during the events of the movie ” Avengers: Endgame “, the main magician of the Earth has lost the ability to turn back time.  But he still has some trump cards up his sleeve. Strange agrees to cast a complex spell that, like the Neutralizer from Men in Black, will erase the memory of all people on the planet and make them forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.

Of course, everything is not going according to plan, and Doctor Strange. So, instead of a spell, makes a hole in the Multiverse. And brings villains from other worlds into our reality. Here they are, from left to right: Doctor Octopus ( Alfred Molina ), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe ), Lizard ( Rhys Ivans ), Electro ( Jamie Foxx ), and The Sandman ( Thomas Hayden Church ).

Stan Lee’s genius

One aspect of Stan Lee’s genius, who invented not only Spider-Man but many of his most famous rivals, was his ability to create human and sympathetic villains. Almost every enemy of Spider-Man was originally a good person but then succumbed to emotions, became a victim of his own pride or tragic coincidence. That is why many of these characters are easy to remake into antiheroes – a prime example is Dr.Michael Morbius ( Jared Leto), who will receive his solo project next year.

The theme of redemption for the villains

The movie comic “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is devoted precisely to the theme of redemption for the villains. The villain received a second chance thanks to Strange’s witchcraft. Those who watched the films with Tobey Maguire remember that Norman Osborne is mentally ill and needs help, and Otto Octavius has problems controlling his cybernetic tentacles – these poor fellows need to be treated, not killed! It’s not for nothing that all the comic strips about Peter Parker run through the phrase that with great power comes great responsibility.

The villainous appearances that previous incarnations of Spider-Man have fought.  And not short cameos meant to make fans feel nostalgic. Their stories are very important.  Their choices determine the basis of the plot.  Someone will step on the path of correction.  Someone will not want to change.  And someone will remain scared, embittered.  And not really understanding anything. By helping others, Peter Parker will grow as a person. At the beginning of the film, Stephen Strange notes with regret that Peter, despite all his superhero exploits, has remained an ignorant schoolboy. He is committing rash acts. In the finale, a completely different Parker appears before us – matured, learned to make difficult decisions.  And ready for a new trilogy (which has already been announced.

The film “No Way Home” a tear-squeezing drama

Strange also accuses Parker of trying to sit on two chairs at once.  (And this sounds extremely ironic if you remember that Spider-Man is currently shared by Sony and Disney). The film “No Way Home” also wants to be both a tear-squeezing drama about losses, partings, and difficult decisions.  And a mind-blowing movie attraction with spectacular fights in Escher’s Mirror Dimension and a stunningly spectacular final battle at the Statue of Liberty. Amazingly, at the creation of director John Watts, it turns out to succeed in both directions. And at the same time pay tribute to the previous films about Spider-Man and the actors who played in them.
