The University of Chitral is a public sector university situated in district Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It was established by the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2017. There is no other university in Chitral.
Before the inception of Chitral University, there were two universities like Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sheringal sub-campus, and Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan sub-campus. Both these universities were combined to form one university. It is because the number of students increased in both the campuses and the space became congested.
District Chitral is a hub of immense untapped economic potential when it comes to mineral extraction, hydro-power generation, tourism, and center of the oldest ancient civilizations (Kalash, etc.), strategical economic importance, and connectivity of the country with Afghanistan, Central Asia, alternate and contingency road to CPEC, etc.
While making regional connectivity, competitiveness, and trade, this university will create a knowledge platform so that all national, regional, and continental stakeholders may cooperate and connect with each other to fulfill the desired goal.

The admission opens in August and Students can apply online. The university will then assign the entry date and location along with roll number slips. Scholarships are provided to students based on merit. There are at least 10 scholarships for which students can have access to quality education. Every student has equal opportunity and there is no discrimination based on religion or gender.
The university is surrounded by lush greenery with high quality of infrastructure and high standard education, which is conceptual, detailed, and is according to the need of global standard. Quality education is largely dependent on highly qualified teachers (and academics), a learner-centered approach, and a good curriculum which, the University of Chitral is providing to its students for holistic education.
Qualification frameworks of the University of Chitral provide guidelines on the education, training, and career pathways by outlining the expected learning and skill outcomes at different levels of studies. The frameworks illustrate how learners may progress from lower to higher qualifications within an education system.
The university gives very important to research and will become the leading research institute in Pakistan in the coming years. Similarly, Supervisors and research teams provide operational support during the research project. The University of Chitral also has strong partnerships with other institutes for joint research ventures and is working by keeping in touch with other universities and platforms through the internet.
The chancellor of the university is the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
